Connecticut's number one music school, The Connecticut School of Music, is celebrating its 6th successful year with an expanded program offering. Every year, the program offerings have increased to better serve the community's needs. After the first year anniversary, guitar and saxophone classes were offered in addition to those offered for classical musicians. In 2002, the school philanthropically created the Connecticut Musical Artists Foundation to help aspiring musicians in financial need. In 2003, classes were formed for adults interested in musical classes. In 2004, ViolinsForRent.com was established to address students needs for stringed instruments. And this year, they're proud to announce several new ensemble programs.

The Connecticut School of Music brings world-class music education to the Fairfield County by offering students custom-tailored programs inspired by techniques proven faster than traditional techniques used by ordinary schools. In addition, The Connecticut School of Music provides the same teachers, training, books and philosophy as those found at the top music conservatories at a fraction of the price.

Founded in 2000, the Connecticut School of Music provides instruction in: violin, viola, cello, classical/jazz/rock guitar, piano, flute, clarinet, voice, saxophone, and composition. In addition, the school provides intensive studies in ear training (solfège), music theory, and chamber music.

Solfege (Ear Training)

Remember the "Do-Re-Mi" song from the movie, The Sound of Music? Solfege teaches you the "Do-Re-Mi's" of music. As an essential component in the training of a musician, you'll learn how to recognize different pitches, perfect your own pitch, read notes, and accurately count out rhythms.

Classes are 30 minutes and range from beginner to advanced level.

Music Theory

Learning the basics of musical theory will allow you not only to understand the music you are playing but also enable you to be able to discuss, analyze, and even compose your own music. Learn how sharps, flats, intervals, scales and chords affect your music. Learn about the composers and history behind your music. And learn from your peers' performances.

Classes are available in 30 minute, 45 minute, and 1-hour timeframes and are reserved for advanced students. Placement by examination.

Chamber Music

Here's your chance to show-off a little and have some fun. Duets, trios, and other chamber music ensembles allow students to challenge themselves in a cooperative, and interactive atmosphere. Meet others with similar interests and get matched based on skill-level.

Classes are 45 minutes and are for intermediate and advanced students. Placement by audition.

Children Chamber Ochestra

Young Musicians Chamber Orchestra ages 5-12 / beginner level. "Students need to compliment their private teaching sessions with team building ensembles. This teaches them how to harmonize, synchronize and work with other musicians. It also motivates them when they can enjoy the fellowship and bond created through shared activity." Kenneth Kuo founder, teacher, and President of Connecticut School of Music. The Connecticut School of Music believes that students of all ages and levels should benefit from collaborative ensemble experiences and provides the opportunity early on and in a more intimate setting.

Young Children's Choir

Ages 5-12 / beginner level. The Connecticut School of Music will be the first in Westport to provide a choir that teaches and inspires young singers. Fun repertoire will include Broadway songs, TV/movie tunes and folk/traditional songs.

Master Classes

Periodically, world-renowned artists will be giving special group classes to advanced students. Special events to be announced.

By audition only.

Faculty Orchestra

Holiday and special concerts allow students to participate in an orchestra with faculty and guest conductors. Dates to be determined.

Auditions given to advanced students only.

Auditions / Repertoire Classes

Special training is provided to help students who are getting ready to audition. The class will help build confidence performing in front of an audience, work on stage presence, selection of repertoire and even help produce a CD if needed. Many of our students have sent CDs as part of their college application and we're happy to report a 90% college acceptance rate to the school of their choice.

Classes arranged by request of the students.
