Mike Winer

PIANO / VIOLIN

Formerly the Acting Executive Director, as well as Music and Education Director, of the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth, KS, violinist Michael Winer has maintained a teaching and performing career with arts organizations throughout the Cleveland, Boston, and Kansas City metropolitan areas. Being an advocate of non-traditional teaching and performing opportunities in addition to one-on-one private lessons, varied projects have brought him and his students outside of the traditional lesson and concert hall settings; of notable interest are Mr. Winer’s work with the Lakewood Project (a partnership with Mark Wood of the Transiberian Orchestra, the Lakewood, OH City Schools, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aimed at teaching music through electronic instruments and rock music), Timilty Middle School in Roxbury, MA (a teaching project partnering the Boston Public Schools, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and funded partially through the VH1 Save the Music Campaign), and Community Music Works (a non-profit urban music program designed to foster a musical community for students in Providence, RI). Mr. Winer has also performed with members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Kansas City Symphony.

Michael Winer has earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin-Wallace University (Berea, OH), a Master of Music degree from Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA), and Post-Graduate Performance Certificate from Park University (Parkville, MO). His principal teachers have included violinists Julian Ross, Eric Rosenblith, and Ben Sayevich. In addition, Mr. Winer has studied composition with Howard Frazin and Loris Chobanian and conducting with Dwight Oltman. Mr. Winer is a member of the American String Teachers’ Association and is Suzuki certified.

Currently, Michael Winer is on the faculty of Music Makers New Hampshire and the Connecticut School of Music, while also being an active private teacher and freelance musician throughout New England. He also performs with the International Musical Arts Institute Chamber Music Festival in Fryeburg, ME where he also serves a development and public relations consultant. Outside of music, Mr. Winer spends much of his time cooking and eating almost anything that comes his way and running long distance races (to keep up with his eating habits!).
