Eric Burns
GUITAR / PIANO
Eric is a versatile and creative guitarist and composer in the New York music scene. He works hard to maintain an individual voice on his instrument and brings that philosophy to his teaching where he encourages students to express themselves better through a solid foundation in their craft.
Eric grew up in Prescott, Arizona where he participated in the All-State Jazz Band and the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Youth Band and received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award from Prescott High School. Now he lives and works in the New York City area performing, composing and teaching.
Eric has a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Performance as well as a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging from William Paterson University where he was a Presidential Scholar. He has studied with Rich DeRosa, Cecil Bridgewater, Jim McNeely, Paul Meyers, Jack Petersen, Fred Forney, James Weidman and Heath Krieger. He was also able to arrange Randy Brecker’s “Forgone Conclusion” for his Jazz Room performance in 2009.
